Management

Mr. John A. Heugle (born 1958) was appointed member and chairman of the management board in April 2002. With nearly 30 years of experience, he played a significant role in the successful repositioning of several companies in Europe, America and Asia. He has held top management positions with private and publicly listed companies in the electronics and telecommunications industries, including Molex Inc. and Krone AG. Mr. Heugle holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Science degree in Materials Science from Northwestern University. Mr. Heugle is a United States citizen.

Mr. Michael Wachsler-Markowitsch (born 1968) joined the company in 2001 and has been its Chief Financial Officer since 2003. He was appointed member of the management board in February 2004. Formerly, he was CFO of Ahead Communications AG, the prior Ericsson Multi Service Access Division, where he was member of the buy-out team with significant international experience in China and South America. Prior to that, he was a tax advisor and auditor with KPMG. Mr. Wachsler-Markowitsch has more than ten years of experience in all aspects of international corporate financial, controlling and tax reporting systems. He is a graduate of the Vienna University of Business Administration. Mr. Wachsler-Markowitsch is an Austrian citizen.

Mr. Franz Faschinger (born 1953) started his career with us more than 25 years ago. He has had a significant technical and management career with American Microsystems Inc. as well as with us, being responsible for the back-end supply chain including the in-house test department. In 1999, he took over the position of Senior Vice President and General Manager of our Industry & Medical business. He holds a university degree in electronics from the Technical University Graz. Mr. Faschinger is an Austrian citizen.

Kirk S. Laney (born 1957) was at the helm of TAOS, Inc. since the company’s foundation in 1998 until merging the company in 2011 with austriamicrosystems. Mr. Laney began his 30-year semiconductor industry career in 1980 when he joined the Linear Products Group at Texas Instruments where he was promoted in 1993 to Operations Manager for the TI Optoelectronics Business Unit. Under his leadership, a core team was assembled with the critical competencies necessary to enable the Intelligent Opto Sensor (IOS) strategy. In 1998, under a technology license, Mr. Laney and five colleagues spun off the Optoelectronic Products Group into Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions®, Inc. which he led from a niche market provider to a worldwide leader and technology innovator of optosensor solutions.

Mr. Laney, who now serves as President of austriamicrosystems’ U.S. Subsidiary, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Midwestern State University and four patents in optoelectronic packaging. Mr. Laney is a United States citizen.

Mr. Bernd Gessner (born 1964), Senior Vice President and General Manager of our Automotive business. He joined us in 1988 and re-joined in 2000 after spending some years at Siemens and Infineon. Since then he has held the position of Director Operations of our Industry & Medical and Automotive businesses and has headed the engineering department of our Automotive business. In 2005 he was appointed General Manager of our Automotive business. Mr. Gessner holds a degree in Electronics from the Technical University of Graz. Mr. Gessner is an Austrian citizen.

Mr. Kambiz Dawoodi (born 1962), Senior Vice President and General Manager of our Consumer & Communications business. He is a veteran of the semiconductor industry with international working experience in Europe and the United States and has held engineering and business management roles at GEC, Nortel and Texas Instruments. He joined us in 1991 and re-joined in 2006 after spending 8 years at Texas Instruments leading the High Speed Amplifier Business Line and starting Low Power Wireless and Test & Measurement Business Lines. He is an electrical engineering graduate of Southampton University and holds a Masters degree in Microelectronics and Communications Systems from CMSA center at Westminster University. Mr. Dawoodi is a UK citizen.

Mr. Thomas Riener (born 1967), Senior Vice President and General Manager of our Full Service Foundry business. He joined austriamicrosystems in 2004 after more than 10 years with Philips Semiconductors, where he developed and managed the worldwide Contactless RFID and Microcontroller Smart Card Business. Mr. Riener holds a degree in Industrial Engineering & Economics of the Technical University of Graz. Mr. Riener is an Austrian citizen.

Mr. J. Eric Janson (born 1951) was appointed Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, in January, 2009. In his 35 years of experience in the Semiconductor industry he has held technical, sales, marketing and product line management positions in leading companies, including 11 years with Analog Devices, 12 years with AT&T Microelectronics / Lucent Microelectronics and 8 years with CSR. Mr. Janson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science, Physics, from the Cleveland State University and a Masters in Business Administration from Babson College. Mr. Janson is a United States citizen.

Mr. Walter Mente (born 1957), Vice President Operations. He has been involved in virtually all aspects of the our technical areas since starting his career with us over 20 years ago. He has served as Director of Quality Assurance as well as Director Operations which includes all fab and back-end areas of manufacturing. Mr. Mente also manages the process development group including MEMS activities. He holds an electronics degree from the Technical University of Graz. Mr. Mente is an Austrian citizen.

Moritz M. Gmeiner (born 1969) gained extensive corporate finance experience with Deutsche Bank focusing on the technology and particularly the semiconductor sector for more than six years. He has advised a range of leading European technology companies and was involved in a number of IPOs and other equity transactions, including a central role in the IPOs of Infineon, Elmos, and IDS Scheer. Mr. Gmeiner joined austriamicrosystems prior to our IPO in 2004. He holds a Master's degree in Economics from University of Regensburg. Mr. Gmeiner is a German citizen.

Mr. Engelbert Liebminger (born 1964), Vice President Human Resources. Prior to joining us, he was successful in building state-of-the-art Human Resources organisations in the electronics industry as well as the pulp & paper industry in Europe and Asia. Mr. Liebminger has more than 20 years of professional experience and has held senior management positions covering all aspects of Human Resources. He holds a degree in personnel management and is an Austrian citizen.
