austriamicrosystems’ AS5011 EasyPointTM two-dimensional magnetic encoder IC receives EDN Innovation award
A complete Hall sensor for smart joystick applications, the AS5011 wins in sensors category
Unterpremstaetten, Austria (April 28, 2010) – austriamicrosystems (SIX: AMS), a leading global designer and manufacturer of high-performance analog ICs, has received the EDN Innovation Award in the sensors category. The two-dimensional magnetic encoder was recognized for "improving the interface between humans and electronic equipment." Now in its 20th year, the EDN Innovation Awards recognize the most innovative people and products in the electronics industry.
Eric Janson, Sr. VP Sales & Marketing, stated, "We are very gratified to win this EDN Innovation Award. Not only was the AS5011 selected as a finalist by EDN’s technical editors, but it was also voted best in its class by design engineers worldwide, a clear reflection of its innovative design."
The AS5011 is a two-dimensional magnetic encoder IC that monitors a magnet’s displacement relative to its center position and provides position information via I2C outputs. It includes five integrated Hall sensing elements for detecting up to ±2 mm of lateral displacement, a high-resolution 12-bit ADC, XY coordinate and motion detection engine, and a smart power management controller. A complete Hall sensor IC for smart joystick module applications, the IC meets the low power requirements and host SW integration challenges for products such as cell phones and smart handheld devices.
