austriamicrosystems AS5011 EasyPointTM two-dimensional magnetic encoder IC and AS3910 HF RFID reader IC chosen as finalists in EDN’s 20th Annual Innovation Awards Competition

Unterpremstaetten, Austria and Boston, MA – February 25, 2010: two austriamicrosystems high-performance analog ICs have been selected from hundreds of nominations to be finalists for this year’s EDN Innovation Awards. The AS5011 EasyPointTM two-dimensional magnetic encoder IC was chosen as a finalist in the sensors category. And the AS3910 HF RFID reader IC with unique antenna management technology is a finalist in the Analog Front End IC category.

Rick Nelson, EDN editor-in-chief, stated, “We received an impressive number of submissions for our 2009 Innovation Awards program, indicating that innovation is alive and well despite the economically challenging year. Two of the outstanding submissions that our editors chose were, in the sensors category, austriamicrosystems’ AS5011 EasyPointTM magnetic encoder IC and, in the analog front-end category, the AS3910 high-performance HF RFID reader IC with antenna auto tuning. Now it’s up to EDN’s readers to determine which product in each category they find most compelling.”

The austriamicrosystems AS3910 13.56 MHz HF RFID Reader IC provides antenna management technology optimized for applications with directly driven antennas. It features two differential low-impedance (1.5 ?) antenna drivers and can deliver up to 1 W of output power from a 3.3 V supply. The AS3910 is suitable for ISO-15693 applications with read ranges of up to 30 cm. On-chip auto-tuning eliminates manual trimming of the antenna in production or in the field. The AS5011 is a two-dimensional magnetic encoder IC that monitors a magnet’s displacement relative to its center position and provides position information via I2C outputs. It includes five integrated Hall sensing elements for detecting up to ±2 mm of lateral displacement, a high-resolution 12-bit ADC, XY coordinate and motion detection engine, and a smart power management controller.
